Acid Reflux Symptoms in NewbornsThere are many factors why newborn babies get a reflux. However, most of the causative factors tend to be aggravated by the fact that newborn’s digestive system is not yet accustomed to milk and they usually spend most of their time lying on their back. Acid reflux causes the acids from your baby’s stomach to regurgitate back into his esophagus.

Some common symptoms of acid reflux in newborns would include; irritation while feeding, spitting up and vomiting frequently. Constant crying, wet burps, frequent coughing and hiccups, disturbed sleep and bad breath are some of the other symptoms of the condition. Another one of the symptoms of acid reflex in newborns is that Sometimes a baby will arch its back and pull up its legs while feeding.

It takes months for a baby to outgrow the symptoms of reflux. While you’re baby is only a week older or so, you have to take important precautions.It would be wise to use a few simple tips to get rid of this problem. It’s as easy as ABC! Let's go!

A- Avoid high-fat diet have a higher risk of having their babies suffering from this problem.

B- Breastfeed your baby, it would be wise to ensure that you follow a healthy diet if you are breastfeeding.

Burp your babies every after feeding. A must you should never forget.

C- Carry your baby for at least 30 min. after a feed. Never let the baby lie down immediately after feeding as this will encourage stomach acids to reflux. Upright position prevents the stomach acids from rising.

Aside from these precautions, here are some heartburn home remedies that you can give to your newborn baby;

Apple cider vinegar helps by balancing the acid production in the stomach which helps babies digest food easily. Mix two teaspoons of apple cider vinegar to a small glass of water and give it you your baby twice a day.

Cumin seeds are also another natural recipe for reflux in newborn babies. Boil some cumin seeds in a glass of water. Let it cool then give your baby one or two teaspoons of this twice a day.

Along with these helpful tips, you should ensure that your baby does not have long feeds. Small frequent feedings is more ideal for “little-delicate-tummies”. Avoid spicy foods as this will affect breast milk as this will affect breast milk and in turn have a very negative impact on the baby. Remember to eat only healthy foods and drink plenty of fluids daily.
