Breastfeeding is the optimal way to satisfy a baby's nutritional and emotional needs. "Bottle Nursing" adapts breastfeeding behaviours to bottle-feeding to help initiate a secure attachment. Encourage any child to eat when they are hungry and stop when they are full (adapted from Attachment Parenting International).
Is Baby Getting Enough Milk?
Breastfeeding mothers frequently ask how to know their babies are getting enough milk. The breast is not the bottle, and it is not possible to hold the breast up to the light to see how many ounces or millilitres of milk the baby drank. Our number obsessed society makes it difficult for some mothers to accept not seeing exactly how much milk the baby receives. However, there are ways of knowing that the baby is getting enough.
Breastfeeding is the natural, physiologic way
of feeding infants and young children. Human milk is the milk made
specifically for human infants. Formulas made from cow’s milk or soybeans
(most formulas, even “designer formulas”) are only superficially
similar, and advertising which states otherwise is misleading. Breastfeeding should be
easy and trouble free for most mothers. A good start helps to ensure
breastfeeding is a happy experience for mother and baby.

Last week, the Hon. Tony Clement, Minister of Health, and the Hon. John Baird, Minister of the Environment announced that the Government of Canada is taking action to protect the health of Canadians and the environment from another chemical of concern.
Breastfeeding can be confusing the first time a new mother
attempts it. Although it is one of the most natural things in the world and many
mothers feel like they should be born knowing how to effectively nurse a child
at the breast, it can be hard to know exactly what to do or how to do it.
