The other day my daughter asked me how Valentine's Day started. She's in Grade 5 so starting to worry a little bit about the message she sends when she hands the boys (and the girls) in her class a Hannah Montana valentine which says something about making cool music together. So I explained that traditionally Valentine's Day had been a day when male secret admirers gave their female crushes a card, rose, or small gift, and signed an anonymous note declaring their devotion and love.

New Year, New Attitude

It’s a new year, and while I’ve given up on making any formal resolutions (or “lies” as I now call them) I have to admit that there is plenty of room for improvement in many aspects of my life.

Christmas for Supermoms is when we really get to either strut our stuff, or work ourselves to a mental breakdown. Between buying the decorations, hauling out the raggedy artificial tree, decorating the tree, the halls, the windows, cooking the turkey, baking the cookies, making sure the Christmas CD’s are working, buying the gifts, wrapping the gifts, stuffing the stocking, and writing and mailing all the cards to friends and family, it’s surprising there aren’t more husbands found dead with a Christmas angel stuffed down their throats.

We all know that one of the basic skills children are expected to learn in school is how to count. In fact, as parents, we start teaching them this even before they hit the hallowed halls of Junior Kindergarten.
“Two cookies. I said two. That’s seven. Put five back. Stop eating
them. Okay now you’ve licked them all, we’re saving them for later. No,
still only two. Oh, just go ahead.”

Are you on Twitter? Do you tweet, retweet, #followfriday and #trendtopics? If you think I've lost my Mommymind, let me reassure you. Twitter is simply the latest social media tool which allows users to tell their "followers" what they are doing, in 140 characters or less. And from what I've seen, Moms love it. We connect, laugh, rant, share, and relate. I get that. But there's a group out there who don't get it. A social media savvy group: Teenagers.
