The CanadianBabies Story

CanadianBabies.ca was launched in March of 2006 as a resource and networking community for new and expecting parents in Canada. The site that you see now was originally built off our first site, www.durhambabies.com.

The site was originally created by Sara Bingham. After moving to Durham Region, as a new parent Sara found it hard to navigate the baby world across the 7 cities that make up Durham Region.  There were one or two parenting directories in Toronto but nothing for parents living in Pickering, Ajax, Whitby, Oshawa, etc.  Sara is also the founder of WeeHands and through networking with baby-related businesses in the area, she became more and more familiar with what the area had to offer new parents.

Sara remarks, "My neighbours who were expecting starting asking me questions like Where can I find a doula?  Where can I find a good sling?  I'd found that because I was networking, through WeeHands, I could answer a lot of these questions.  Originally, the DurhamBabies website was just my business phonebook, placed online!  The Durham Region site was so successful, businesses and families in Toronto started asking for their own site...and this grew to what you see online now for CanadianBabies!"
